View looking northwest at the main, southern, entrance to the House of the Faun off of the street called the Via della Fortuna. The monumental entrance, with its two pilasters and lintel, was first constructed in the Samnite Period (second–century B.C.).
All of the other entranceways in this image are also connected with the House of the Faun, but they are entrances to shops that were built into the house and that faced the street. They were probably rented to merchants.
