View of the eight line Latin inscription of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antionius (Caracalla; A.D. 211–217). It commemorates how the third Gallic Legion built the road here at Nahr el–Kalb in the third century A.D. It includes a number of titles for Marcus indicating the places he conquered or visited.
