A statue of Athena in marble that dates to the Roman Period (second century A.D.; about 6 ft. [1.8 m.] high).  Note the warrior helmet and the Medusa image on her breast.  Her hair seems to be worn up which is a fairly common hairstyle in the Classical Period.  She wears a chiton that is tied slightly above the waist and over this an outer garment — a himation.

The marble struts that support her arms are rather common in copies of statues that were made during the Roman Period.

Athena was the goddess of wisdom and war and was the patron deity of Athens.
