View looking northeast at three cenotaphs (memorial grave markers) including that of Mevlana. Note the three "vertical" head markers (very similar to the hats that members of the Mevlevi sect wore) and the turbans at the base of them—indicated their high/revered status.
The actual cenotaph of Mevlana is the one furthest to the left and the one joined to it on the right is that of his son Sultan Veled. The gold threaded embroidered quilt over the cenotaphs was made in 1274. The marble sarcophaguses under it (not visible) were donated in 1565 by Suleiman the Magnificent.
