The sculpture represents the visit of the prophet Samuel to Jesse (seated and surrounded by seven of his sons on the left side of the image).  On the right, David, the youngest son, is arriving at the gathering with his flock.

The presence of the angel (upper left) is to remind the viewer that the promise made to David (2 Samuel 7) has been fulfilled in the Incarnation of the Son of God.  The tree symbolizes the genealogy of Jesus, who is represented as the King of the Universe (on the highest point of the sculpture).

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, during his pilgrimage to Bethlehem, blessed this work of art on the 13th of May, 2009.

Artist: Czeslaw Dzwigaj – Krakow, Poland
