Upper Room Mt. Zion

Upper Room Mt. Zion

The area referred to today at Mount Zion is located on the western ridge of the older portions of Jerusalem—just south of the Old City wall.   Although the original, Old Testament, Mount Zion was not located here, but on the lower eastern hill, there are many “traditions”(!) associated with the current Mount Zion.  These include the burial place of King David, the site of Caiaphas the High Priest before whom Jesus appeared, the site of the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost.   Extra biblical associations include Mary, the mother of Jesus, falling into her eternal sleep, and the important early church called “The Holy One of Zion.”
