This is a map of the area of Rome where the Campus Martius was located in ancient times. On the north was the Mausoleum of Augustus and on the south the Pantheon. In the center of the image, on the right (east) side of the Campus Martius is where the Ara Pacis was originally built—today it is located (rebuilt) in a modern building between the Mausoleum of Augustus and the Tiber River.
Although today it is built up, in ancient times it was a large open space used for a variety of activities: military drills, games, etc.
