View looking east from the entrance to the Asclepion at the acropolis of Pergamum that towers some 900 ft. [275 m.] over the plain below. The two trees on the right (south) side of the citadel mark the site of the Altar of Zeus. To the left of these, in the center of the image, the curvature of the cavea of the theater is visible. To the left, and above this, the retaining wall and the white columns of the Temple of Trajan are visible.
