View of two inscribed orthostats that were found at the entrance to the Temple of the Storm God (Tarhunna/Tarhunza) at Carchemish. They are inscribed in Luwian and date to the Neo-Hittite Period (ca. 1000-717 B.C.)
Content: The Lord of Carchemish, Katuwa(s) says that he forwarded the chariots of Kawa City to the places where his fathers, grandparents, and forefathers had not gone before. And that since he is a just person, the gods Tarhunza, Karhuhas, and Kubaba sat on HUHURPALI (whatever that is) for him. He also narrates that he has presented oblations for Karhuhas, Kubaba, and the god Sarkus, observed the procession for these deities, and seated them on the podium [of this temple?].
