View of a pedestal carved in basalt. The two bulls support a platform into which a deep circular impression was carved. Usually, this is interpreted as a place where the round base of a large statue is inserted—the statue is missing.
This object was found in the courtyard of the Temple of the Storm God (Tarhunna/Tarhunza) at Carchemish. It dates to the Neo-Hittite Period (ca. 900-717 BC).
