View looking east along a portion of the partially preserved section of the diolkos. The modern canal cuts through the ancient diolkos.
Note how rain and the modern canal are in the process of destroying the 2,000-year-old diolkos. However, because of this destruction the “cutaway” view provides us with a glimpse into its substructure.

In the upper left portion of the image the modern “sinking” bridge is visible!
