View of the Chancel and Altar area of the Church of Saint Nicholas.  The chancel is slightly raised from the church's Nave—see lower right of image.  A small "altar" is visible in the center of the picture.  It is surrounded by columns that supported a canopy.  At the far end is the semi-circular synthronos—the seating area for clergy.  The door on the left side of the synthronos leads to a low passage that runs under the synthronos from one side to the other—I am not certain of its function.

Near the windows, some plaster with frescoes is visible.  The whole of the interior would have been covered with plaster.
