The almond tree is the first to flower as winter is beginning to end (late January/early February). Its beautiful blossoms are a harbinger of spring and the harvest to come.
Almonds have been cultivated and eaten since earliest times. In addition, “almond–shaped” decorations were used as ornamentation on the Tabernacle candelabrum—the Menorah.
