View looking east at the western foundations of the Israelite Palaces on the summit of Lachish.
Two phases in the building of the palaces are noticeable. To the left (north) is the foundation of the palace built by the Judean king Rehoboam (just after Solomon; 10th century B.C.). On the right (south) are the stones of the additions from the days of Jehoshaphat (9th century B.C.).
