View looking north along the western rampart of Lachish. Just above the center of the image is Starkey's dump from the 1930's. In the lower left (west), along the slope is where Starkey found three temples from the Late Bronze Age (1550–1200 B.C.)—the so–called "fosse temples."
Note how the upper surface of Lachish (right [east] side of the image is barely above the surrounding hills (horizon on the center left of image).
