View looking north at the south face of the “Inscribed Pillar”—it has texts on all four sides! This is actually a Lycian pillar–tomb and dates to the fifth century B.C. It is 13 ft. [4 m.] high!
It is inscribed in Lycian and Greek. The Lyrcian inscription is 250 lines long and unfortunately is not completely understood. The Greek portions seem to indicate that this is the tomb of a prince called Kerei.
The remains of the associated funerary chamber are in the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul.
