View looking northwest at an archway built by the Roman Emperor Vespasian (A.D. 69–79). It actually may have formed part of a triple arched ceremonial gateway that led into Xanthos from the south (compare the ceremonial gate at nearby Patara). From here, the road actually led south to Patara.
In the background the acropolis of Xanthos is visible.
