View of the foundations of the square Bouleuterion or Council House.  The Bouleuterion is located at the east end of the agora and was approached on the west side.  Evidently there were wooden tiered seats along the three sidewalls.

The Bouleuterion was built in the 4th century B.C.  It was not only used for Council meetings but also for lectures and performances.  Aristotle, the famous philosopher, lived in Assos from 348 to 345 B.C. and may have delivered lectures in this structure and/or in the Agora.
