View looking southeast at a reconstruction of the Temple dedicated to the Emperor Augustus.  The foundation of the temple is bedrock upon which the temple was built.  The temple is Roman in style with a forecourt (pronaos) on a raised platform with four columns in the front.  The approach is from the courtyard on the west via a staircase that is flanked by two "arms" that project from the porch of the temple.

The plaza in front of the temple is 210ft. wide and 280ft. long.  The temple itself is set in front of a semi-circular, two-story, portico.

This whole complex was the religious and political center of the city.
