View of a limestone orthostat which was found in the "Herald's Wall" of the Lower Palace Complex at Carchemish. Two horses draw a carriage on which is a (protective?) cage. The head of a man sticks out of the top of the cage. Although the portion behind the cage is damaged, the sign in the museum states that a standing lion was there—one paw of which is visible on the upper portion of the cage. The sign does not offer any interpretation as to what event is being depicted here (a lion hunt? or?).
The orthostat dates to the Neo-Hittite Period (ca. 900-717 BC).
