View looking southeast across the northern temenos of the Temple of Apollo.
On the right side of the image is the entrance to the Temple of Apollo. Note the seven level, 11.5 ft. [3.5 m.] high, crepidoma on which it stood. In the center of this area a group of people are standing on the fourteen steps, which were used to enter the temple.
The green area in the center-left of the image is the temenos (sacred area) where worshippers and inquirers would purify themselves with water and where sacrifices would be offered prior to seeking the advise of the oracle. Note, just left of center, the outline of the base of the circular sacrificial altar. The [nearly] semi-circular boundary of the temenos is also visible – beginning at the yellow trashcan move your eye in a clockwise direction to follow the curvature of the wall that outlines the area.
