View looking north at the western street as it approaches (towards the viewer) the city of Assos. Like many other Greco Roman cities this thoroughfare into the city was lined with monumental tombs of the elite.
Note especially on the right side of the road all of the sarcophagi scattered about. In all probability Paul would have approached the city, coming towards the viewer as he approached Assos after walking on foot from Alexandria Troas (Acts 20:13–14).
